This rota is due to be updated in May 2024

Watering is required in the two poly-tunnels, frames and the greenhouses.

All the plants in the greenhouses are tender and need to be moved if low temperatures are forecast

The South polytunnel should be kept the coolest as it is mainly for salads.

The North polytunnel contains a mixture of plant types but would probably benefit from being marginally warmer than the South polytunnel.

Please contact your rota partner on the same day so you can liaise.

Please arrange someone to cover for you if you are not going to be available for any reason. Please let John W know if you cannot find an alternate.

Morning Watering
  1. Open both polytunnels and frames. If it is going to be warm open every door and all side vents. Otherwise open appropriately. The aim is to avoid overheating the tunnels.
  2. Use the netted frames to cover the frames that have brassicas in them to stop cabbage whites laying eggs.
  3. Water the soil grown crops in the polytunnels using the lances aiming to avoid splashing and to water the soil not the plants.
  4. If you have time, look for slugs and fresh slug damage.

Evening Watering
  1. Close both polytunnels and frames. In very hot weather check with John W if doors / vents should be left open overnight.
  2. Check modules and pots. If any are dry, water carefully with a lance.
  3. Check the outside cold frame modules and pots and if any are dry, water carefully with a lance.
  4. Cover the outside cold frames with the relevant mesh covers.
  5. DO NOT WATER SOIL GROWN CROPS.
  6. If you have time look for any slug damage and slugs.
